The History of Video Game Consoles
7th Generation Consoles (Overview)

With internal hard drives and processing power large enough to rival many of today's computers, support for ultra high resolutions and HDTV, 7.1 surround sound capabilities, and use of new media including Blu-ray discs, 7th generation games are more realistic and detailed than ever before. One of the most revolutionary aspects of the 7th generation is that the controllers are now being designed to detect 3D motion. This means that players can physically interact with the games in ways never before thought possible, taking them closer-and-closer into the game itself. These days, full games can be digitally purchased and downloaded directly onto a 7th generation console straight from the Internet. In 30 years, games have evolved from a simple black and white block bouncing around, to fully immersive 3D environments that rival the real world.
